900-pound longhorn bull evades North Carolina authorities

- August 11, 2023

Aug. 9 (UPI) — Authorities in North Carolina are searching for a 900-pound longhorn bull that escaped from its owner and gave police the slip.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control said officers were dispatched Monday to assist Charlotte-Mecklenburg police on a report of a loose bull in the Moores Chapel Road area.

Officers learned the longhorn bull’s owner had been attempting to move the animal from a pasture to an enclosed area due to severe weather in the area, but the bovine was spooked by the weather and took off running.

Animal control officers, police officers and the bull’s owner made several unsuccessful attempts to wrangle it into a trailer, but the bull managed to run into a heavily wooded area and gave its pursuers the slip.

The search was called off about 10:45 p.m. Monday. Animal control officers returned to the wooded area Tuesday and used a heat-seeking drone to attempt to locate the bull, but they were unable to find any signs that the animal was still in the area.
