Aug. 10 (UPI) — A Maryland man who regularly uses his mother’s license plate number to play the lottery ended up using the digits to score a $50,000 Pick 5 prize.
The Forestville man told Maryland Lottery officials he bought his ticket for the Aug. 5 Pick 5 evening drawing at the Exxon gas station on Suitland Road in Morningside and the ticket bore his usual set of numbers, 4-2-5-2-5, which came from his mother’s license plate.
The man said his sister, who also frequently uses the same number combination to play lottery drawings, called him after seeing the results of the drawing.
“Mom’s number came up,” the man recalled his sister saying.
The sister, who hadn’t bought a ticket for that particular Pick 5 drawing, told her brother to check his tickets, and he used the Maryland Lottery app to confirm he had indeed won a $50,000 prize.
The man and his wife said some of the winnings will be shared with his mother, while the rest will go toward home improvements, a celebratory dinner and boosting their savings.
“We’re going to build the bank account back up,” he said.
